It’s Been Awhile

It’s been awhile since I blogged. I’ve been busy and I’m not really used to blogging. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it! I’ve been trying to promote The Perfect Sub as well and that can be daunting to the point where I just want to bury my head beneath my pillow and not come out.

To date, The Perfect Sub has been doing well. It was an All Romance eBooks bestseller out of the gate really. It did and continues to do very well in the rankings at Amazon. This is amazing to me since this is a first book. I guess you could say I planned well when I submitted this book to Decadent. The 1Night Stand series is popular and already has a huge following. Readers who might never have found me if this weren’t a 1Night Stand are reading my book. And I think they are spreading the word. If so, I thank them heartily!

I’ve done a few guest blogs in order to help promote the book. I’ve been thinking about putting the links up to those blogs in case anyone would like to see what I’ve been up to. The post I did for Coffee Time Romance is amusing and is something other authors can really relate to.  Maybe I’ll just post the links on the front page of the website. If you’re interested you can go check it out.

I’m heading out. I need to write. Thank you to everyone who has friended me on Facebook and followed me on Twitter. I’m clicking like a mad person trying to return the favor. Also, thanks to everyone who bought The Perfect Sub and to those who have given it a positive review. It’s much appreciated.

Subbing the Sub

This morning I submitted The Perfect Sub to Decadent Publishing for their 1Night Stand line. Now I wait. I am hopeful but this is a kinky little novella of almost 12K words. It’s gay kink. I think people are into gay kink but what do I know?

If they do not contract The Perfect Sub, I’ll find out why and fix the issues. Then I will look for another home for it. Perhaps Dreamspinner or Riptide. I’ll have to remove the references to Decadent’s character Madame Eve though. I don’t think that will be a problem. My story is first person and focused on the main characters and the misunderstanding between them that has kept them from getting together. Drew’s emotions are first and foremost in this story.

I posted bits of the story over the weekend as I completed it. I hope that the tweets intrigued people. Drew is a naughty submissive who tries to be something he’s not (perfect) in order to win a Dom he’s fallen in love with. But the Dom doesn’t even notice him. Broken hearted after a year of trying to get with the Dom, Drew asks for a 1Night Stand with a Dom who will make him forget the one he pines for. And who shows up? The Dom he’s hot for, of course! Turns out a lot of things are not what they seem. 😉

Wish me luck and maybe you’ll soon be reading The Perfect Sub!

Shifting Gears

My beta readers have had me thinking a lot in the last few days which is why I haven’t been on Twitter or blogging here. I had originally planned for this series to be entirely from Mase’s point of view. But I can’t really tell the whole story that way. The reader needs to hear what Ty has to say. This series is about the budding relationship between a Dom and his sub, between two men drawn inexorably together. It’s not just Mase’s story. It’s Ty’s too.  I know I was going to post Ty’s words here as a counterpoint to the novella but I think what I need to do is incorporate Ty’s point of view into the novella and tell the full story there.

The first book Finding Master is about how Mase finds what he’s always wanted. The second book is about how the two men begin to build a relationship together. The third book takes them deeper into that relationship both physically as Dom and sub and emotionally as partners. The fourth book is about crossing boundaries, pushing the envelope, trying the limits of their relationship and adjusting the dream they originally had to include things they never thought possible. And the fifth and last book is about commitment and living the dream they both built.

Only the first book has a title but the other four have working titles. I won’t divulge them. I’m still thinking.

Giving the Dom Permission

When we left Ty, he was ogling a service sub who seemed to him to be a lot more than a service sub. Of course, we know that he’s ogling Mase, but Ty doesn’t really know who Mase is…yet. What he does know is that someone hurt Mase badly.

I watched him serve drinks for nearly half an hour before he came close enough for me to see the color of his eyes. Long lashed, large and oval, slightly tilted at the outer corners, the irises were a curious sea-crystal shade of turquoise. And they held the expression of a caged man. Someone had hurt Mason deeply and who he was now resided behind a cage of his own making.

Self-defense. Self-preservation. I understood these things better than most people. I’d learned them the hard way as a Marine and an FBI agent. Mason had learned them the hard way too and it had been an extremely harsh learning environment.

I was just about to take myself off to the dance floor so I wouldn’t be so obvious about my interest in Mason when a man walked up to me. As tall as me, but more slender, Banning Dearborn had a pair of nearly black eyes that took me in, sized me up and made a judgment call.

“Come to my office so we can discuss your membership.”

I hadn’t decided I wanted to become a member but Banning apparently had made the decision for me. I followed him into an inner office with a wide oak desk and black leather chairs. There were tasteful prints of famous masterpieces on the walls, framed in oak to match the desk.

“A fan of Van Gogh?” I asked, casually glancing at the print of Starry Night as he waved me to a chair and took the one behind the desk.

A smile curved his lips. “My partner, Aaron, is. Left to my own devices I would have wallpapered the room with Tom of Finland drawings.”

“A man after my own heart,” I joked.

His smile turned enigmatic. “You may well be.”

I cut to the chase. “You’re going to offer me membership?”

He nodded. “I rather think I have to.”

I quirked a brow at him and didn’t speak. With a sigh, he leaned his elbows on the desk, clasping his hands together.

“You were staring at one of the service subs.”

I nodded. “The one who isn’t a twink.”

Banning chuckled. “Yes, Mason is very much not a twink.”

“Mason?” I had a name to go with the vision in my head now.

It was Banning’s turn to nod. “Mason Weldon III, Esquire to be exact.”

The wheels in my head spun quickly. “He’s no more a true service sub than I am.”

“Correct.” Banning stared intently at me. “He’s under my protection. No one has the right to touch him in this club without his say so…or mine.”

“Are you giving me permission?” I’d never been sized up quite in the way that Banning did it. I had the sense that the man was testing my words, but I didn’t know why. Nor did I know why a man like Mason would be under the protection of a man like Banning who already had a submissive, a life-partner, or so I’d been told.

Banning sat in silence for a minute, as still as any submissive. “I am,” he said finally.

So Ty’s being allowed to approach Mase. I wonder how that will work out…

In Ty’s Words

Normally, while working on Finding Master, everything comes to me in Mase’s voice. Finding Master is told from Mase’s point of view. But early this morning Ty woke me. He wanted to tell the story from his viewpoint. I tried to explain to him that this is Mase’s story, but he wouldn’t listen.

So today I’m going to start telling Ty’s story here on the blog.

I had been out and proud for twenty five years. Eight years spent lurking behind an open closet door because of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell didn’t exactly count. I had been out before I went in the service. I just kept my mouth shut about it when I wore my uniform or went anywhere where being out could damage my military career. In the end, it didn’t matter if I was gay or not. Eight years as a Marine had been enough for me.

As an FBI agent, being gay supposedly didn’t matter. The government was equal opportunity if you had the right skill set and boy, did I. Tracking serial killers was an ugly job and it kept me away from home more than I liked. So after four years as a G-man, I’d had enough of that too.

Going home to the town where I’d been born had been a conscious choice. I hadn’t grown up there. I had no relatives, friends or family there. But it called to me at some gut level I didn’t exactly understand. The fact that their police force needed another homicide detective with my particular brand of skills seemed to clinch it for me that this is where I belonged.

While I’d been out for twenty five years, I’d only been a serious dominant for ten. Of course, I couldn’t go backward and live a vanilla life any longer. I was kinky. I was a dominant. I would never have said it was how I lived, that it was my lifestyle, but it was just how I was and who I was. And before the night I walked into Banning’s I would have said I could no more do the vanilla thing when it came to finding a lover than I could have gone back to the FBI.

Banning’s was a nice club. Nicely appointed in that understated masculine leather and wood type of décor you’d expect in an upscale kink club. It was obviously well run and profitable. Everything was safe, sane and consensual. And it was filled to the rafters with beautiful gay boys and hunky dominants.

When I entered for the first time, a bouncer sized me up, told me the guest rules and let me wander the club. I’d been there maybe an hour when I finally made my way into the bar. Once my eyes adjusted to the slightly dimmer lights I walked to the bar and ordered a drink. With the Scotch in hand I turned to survey the room.

I’m not sure how I managed to stay by the bar and not turn one hundred percent caveman the instant I laid eyes on Mason Weldon III.  My mouth went dry. My pulse leapt. My head buzzed. And my cock turned into a steel bar that throbbed with every overexcited beat of my heart. I had never seen a more perfect man.

On his knees, serving drinks, Mason was grace personified. Raven dark hair fell in silky waves that curled just a little at the ends. Thick thighs dusted with dark hair bulged with muscles. He had perfectly sculpted calves and long elegant feet. Broad shoulders rippled with well defined muscles tapered down to a narrow waist and a droolworthy ass.

When he turned, I saw the sculpted perfection of his chest and abs and the little dark pink nubs of his nipples. His cock lay lax against his thigh but even soft, it held the promise of better than average length and girth. His well trimmed pubes revealed two heavy sacs that appeared to be waxed smooth. Saliva collected in my mouth as I watched him move, his generous genitals swaying. I didn’t normally think of a man’s package in terms of how it looked, but Mason’s was beautiful.

Eventually, my gaze roamed up to his face and my heart nearly stopped. Square jawed with a classically handsome profile, the man exuded masculinity. I’d never seen such a raw display of maleness and testosterone in a sub before. Not even my commanding officer, who had been my sub and had taught me about domination, could match Mason when it came to sheer masculinity.

Mason was no twink and that made my cock ache.

If you want the other side of the story, you’ll have to wait for me to finish Finding Master. I’ve only got another 15,000 words to go…

Enter Dominant

Mase needs a master. He knows it and his best friend Banning knows it too. When someone new joins Banning’s club, the new dominant seems to be exactly what Mase needs. He’s a man who knows that Mase is damaged. He wants him anyway even if it means he has to heal him first.

Meet Tyson Caldwell.

He reached out and tapped my temple. “You think I don’t know what’s going on in there? I do, Mase. Just let me control the direction and the speed of this relationship and I promise you, the rewards will come. When the time is right you’ll come too as will your submission.” His fingers drifted down to stroke my lips. “For now, we need to fight your fear and that means dating and vanilla.”

His hand dropped and he got up, reaching for his leather jacket. “I’m not going to make the same mistakes other dominants have made with you in the past. I’m going to know you, Mase, before I ever lay a hand on you sexually. You see, it’s not about domination, submission or getting off. It’s about you. And me. Us, together. I won’t risk long term goals for short term satisfaction.”

Never have two characters so captured me. I’m in love with both of them. With Ty’s strength and Mase’s determination. It’s no wonder they’re falling in love with each other.

Inside Mason’s Head

You’ve met Mason Weldon III, Esquire, attorney at law and submissive.  Now, let’s take a look inside Mason’s head. This is an excerpt from Finding Master.

What did I want? Was it just a master I sought? Or did I want more? For the thousandth time I asked myself if I wanted what Banning and his sub Aaron had. Part of me did. Part of me yearned to be fulfilled that way. But a much larger part of me feared it, feared trying for it and I often felt as if it were something that would forever be out of my reach. I had a difficult time reining in the negatives that rose like specters of my past to stomp all over the tendrils of hope that blossomed in me when the dominant had asked what I wanted.

Finding Master is about the fulfillment of Mason’s dreams and needs. He is not like other submissives. He has secrets, a past, and he is broken. Yet, as you can see above, he still has hope. Unfortunately, sometimes hope is not enough.

“My name is Mason Weldon III. I am a submissive.”

Meet Mase. He’s the main character in my novella Finding Master.  I plan to write about Mase’s life in a series of novellas that explain his damaged past, his search for a master and what happens to him when he finds one.

Mase is an unusual sub. In his day to day life, his work, he is a powerful man, wealthy and well connected. He has a strong personality and a strong will. It will take a very special dominant to fulfill all of Mase’s needs.

I invite you along for the journey, my journey as an author, fleshing out a character who refuses to let me go, who dominates the page despite being a submissive. I invite you into my world of gay kink where men wear leather and negotiate things only whispered about in polite society. It is a world of safe words and limits, pleasure and pain. I’ll be your tour guide and Mase will be the vehicle that brings you into this world.

So come along, the ride is just beginning.
